To discover

Let yourself be carried away by the different shades of colors, from the clay-red coves of Bauduen to the yellow pebbles of the Sainte-Croix beaches. Observe the resurgence of Fontaine l'Evêque (a true oasis of freshness appreciated by locals before the dam was filled). Feel small before the immensity of the lake and the dam, all blending into the palette of greens offered by the pines, oaks, poplars, and willows lining the lake and the village of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon. With a bit of luck, you will spot many different birds and ducks! A tour of about 2 hours that will allow you to appreciate the vastness and turquoise waters of Lake Sainte-Croix. Please respect the natural areas and EDF signs.

Set out to discover Costebelle Island (strictly forbidden to land there), circle around it (possible only when the waters are high), guess its heart-shaped form and admire its green landscape. Imagine the history of the former village of Les Salles-sur-Verdon, submerged when the dam was filled, then return toward Bauduen to admire the beauty of this village with its feet in the water. All this while enjoying the distant view of the mountains bordering the Grand Canyon, offering a fine glimpse of the immensity of Lake Sainte-Croix.
Allow about 3 hours.

Embark on the adventure of the Grand Canyon, the Upper Verdon Gorges. From Bauduen, allow about 2 hours to reach the Pont du Galetas, the entrance to the Grand Canyon, then plan for about 1 hour inside the gorges. Be aware that this is a very popular and above all very fragile site—respect it absolutely! Landing there is prohibited and signage must be followed. Return while strolling across Lake Sainte-Croix, enjoying the tranquility and above all the diversity of the surrounding landscape!
The whole excursion can be done in about 5 to 6 hours.

How to come?

carte Bauduen

Via the A8 highway (Côte d'Azur)

Exit at Brignoles/St-Maximin, go through Aups and then follow signs to Bauduen.

From the A51 highway

Exit at Manosque, go through Gréoux-les-Bains:

  • For direct access:
    • Go to the village of Riez (D952), then follow direction Sainte Croix du Verdon (D11).
    • Just before the village of Sainte-Croix, take the direction to Bauduen (D111).
    • You'll then drive alongside the lake on your left and cross the dam bridge.
  • For a more “Provençal” route (not recommended for large motorhomes):
    • Take the direction to Riez and from Allemagne-en-Provence head to Montagnac/Montpezat (D111).
    • Before Montagnac, turn right toward Montpezat (D211), stay on this road across the plateau.
    • Pass Montpezat on your right and continue toward Baudinard.
    • Stay on the main road (D9) until the junction with D71 (about 5 km).
    • Turn left to reach Bauduen (at the dam do not cross the bridge, turn right instead).
